BRVM Investment Days
Johannesburg, South Africa

The BRVM held the third round of the BRVM Investment Days Roadshow on 7 and 8 May 2024 at the Johannesburg Stock Exchange.

This two-day investor conference brought together South African institutional investors, investment advisors, corporate advisors and bankers, with political and economic authorities and market players from the WAEMU region. The spotlight was on the guest country, Côte d’Ivoire.

Agricultural Field Visit

Before the conference, the BRVM enjoyed an exciting site visit to the Bronkhorstspruit Silo, run by Afgri Grain Management.

The BRVM delegation took a tour of the facility and engaged in a lively discussion with the Afgri team about the role warehouse structures play in the overall commodities trading and supply chain.

BRVM Investment Days Roadshow

The conference started with an invitation-only workshop with the Johannesburg Stock Exchange on the role and challenges of agricultural commodities exchanges in Africa. This was also the perfect opportunity for the BRVM to present the launch of the Côte d’Ivoire Agricultural Commodities Exchange (BMPA) project.

The second day of the conference began on a high note, as the BRVM Chairman of the Board, Dr Parfait Kouassi, and the BRVM CEO, Dr Edoh Kossi Amenounve, took to the stage for the JSE Market open ceremony. Amidst melodious ululating, representatives of the WAEMU authorities, listed companies, intermediaries and JSE representatives watched Dr Edoh Kossi Amenounve blow the kudu horn to signal the opening of the markets.

The full day investor conference allowed South African investors to explore investment opportunities with in-depth insight into the WAEMU economic perspective, market progress and the business and financial outlook for the BRVM markets.

Presentations from WAEMU corporate executives also shared details on business strategy and forecasts and clarified the role of intermediaries in facilitating investment into African markets.

Memorandum of Understanding

The conference concluded with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding by Dr Amenounve and Zack Hodgson of Securities Trading Technologies (STT) to promote technological cooperation and advancement to support stock exchanges’ development.

Events like the BRVM Investment Days are essential to strengthening investor confidence in African stock exchanges while highlighting the important role these exchanges play in financing their countries’ economic development.
